Baseball: Guard get past Legacy Christian in opening round

The Guard varsity rallied from 4-2 down to score four runs in the fourth and get past Frisco Legacy Christian 6-4 in the opening round of the TAPPS Division II baseball playoffs.

Logan Fitzgerald drove in two runs with Logan Langford accounting for three of the Guard’s 10 hits in the game.

Brook Hill moved to 16-9 and now moves on to the regional round against an opponent to be determined.

The Guard used pitchers Miguel Vega, Tyler Overbeek and Josh Jenkins in the victory with Vega getting the win and Jenkins the save. The three combined for 10 strikeouts.

Brook Hill went in front 1-0 in the first when Seth Moss doubled with one out and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Guard doubled their lead, 2-0, in the second when Campbell Fletcher walked, went to second on an error, third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brooks Parham.

Brook Hill trailed 4-2 in the fourth when the Guard took back control for good. Miguel Vega and Logan Langford began things with consecutive singles. Fletcher followed with an RBI double to left that scored Vega with Langford moving up to third.

With two outs, Fitzgerald came through with a two-run double to score Langford and Fletcher for a 5-4 lead. Seth Moss continued the surge with a two-run double after Reid Hill had singled to score Fitzgerald for a 6-4 lead.

Brook Hill’s Vega, Overbeek and Jenkins did the rest.
