Baseball: Guard rally to defeat Tyler Grace 4-2 in their district opener

TYLER — Brook Hill rallied from two runs down to defeat Tyler Grace 4-2 in their TAPPS Division II District 3 opener Tuesday.

Brooks Parham and Seth Moss drove in two runs apiece with Moss, Parham, Reid Hill and Josh Jenkins all finishing with two hits apiece as part of 10 overall in the victory.

Miguel Vega went 5 and 1/3 innings with 11 strikeouts for the win. Vega allowed two runs on five hits with three walks. Dakota Gillespie relieved him in the sixth with Josh Jenkins striking out two of the three batters he faced in a scoreless seventh for the save.

Brook Hill moved to 9-4 overall with the win and begin league play 1-0.

The Guard trailed 2-0 entering the top of the fourth inning. Tyler Overbeek began the rally with a one-out single to center and moved to second on a single from Logan Fitzgerald. Jake Shaffer did enough with a groundout to move both runners to second and third with two outs.

That brought Parham to the plate and the senior promptly delivered a double to center field which scored Overbeek and Fitzgerald to tie the game at 2-2. The two-out hitting continued with Seth Moss singling in Parham to put the Guard in front.

Brook Hill stayed there with the Guard adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh in the form of a solo homer by Moss. With one out, Moss worked a 2-0 count and smashed the third pitch he saw over the left-field wall to make it 4-2.

Jenkins did the rest to close it out in the seventh.
