BASEBALL HOPES FOR REPEAT RUN INTO PLAYOFFS
|
|
The 2009 Brook Hill baseball team provided excitement with a core of talented youth who helped push the Guard to a winning season and into the playoffs. Junior pitcher Jake beam led the way on the mound for the Guard pitching in 35 innings while amassing 59 strikeouts.
Freshman and 2nd team All-State selection J.B. Moss led the tean at the plate in batting average hitting .467, in on base percentage at .522, slugging percentage at .730, as well as being the team leader in triples with 4 and runs scored with 36. Junior outfielder Yasu Ohmukai led all Brook Hill baserunners with a perfect 19 steals in as many attempts. Beam led the team in doubles with 10 and in Home Runs with 2 and 31 RBI's.
The Guard will miss seniors Ian Sudduth and Chris Dawson who provided leadership and experience.
Head Coach Vince Veazey has this to say about the 2009 Guard baseballers. "Last years team had many role players who contributed to us having a successful season. For teams to be successful you have to be able to bunt, hit, steal bases, and get quality pitching. We had many different guys who played huge roles in that."
Veazey notes the 2010 team looks to be improved and will strive to advance further than the 1st round of the TAPPS class 3-A playoffs next year. Newcomers A.J. Minter and Travis Pirtle figure to contribute, as well as part time hurler Jared Dickey and sophomore otfielder Jake Nash. The Navy Blue and Orange baseball players at Brook Hill will also participate in the first ever Alumni game this spring, reuniting the "old Guard with the new.
Coach Veazey encourages all the Brook Hill faithful to anticipate an outstanding season of baseball at Herrington Field as He and Assistant Coaches Austin Reed and Terry Pirtle will help guide this years squad. |

BASEBALL TEAM LOOKS TOUGH FOR 2009 SEASON
|
|
Following a successful run in the 2008 campaign with a record of 14-11, and advancing to the second round of the TAPPS State Playoffs, The Brook Hill Guard Baseball team is looking for another solid year under 3rd year Head Coach Vince Veazey. Veazey loses only two seniors from last years squad, while inheriting numerous freshman off last years team that won the Middle School League Championship. The baseball program at Brook Hill has earned the reputation of developing players from middle school through high school by stressing solid fundamentals, strong hitting techniques, and instilling in players a true passion for the game.
Returning for the 2009 season are 2nd Team All State Selection Outfielder Yasu Ohmukai and Utility man Preston Swink who was Honorable Mention. A strong pitching staff returns with lefties Chris Dawson, Tanner Bailey, Austin Pile, and righthander Jake Beam. Catcher Ian Sudduth returns to make the battery mates strong, and Jacob Johnson is back to anchor down 3rd Base.
Veazey believes the experienced pitching staff should carry his team this year as they did in much of "08.
"Our pitchers have one a great job in giving us quality innings which kept our team in every game last year. I think they will do the same this year, and with a more experienced offensive team, we should be successful again this season."
The Brook Hill Baseball Program is recognized throughout East Texas for having great facilities, quality coaches, and a reputation for developing players to their fullest potential. |

Brook Hill Baseball Prepares For Exciting Year
|
|
The 2008 Brook Hill Baseball Team is a sophomore laden team which promises to provide excitement in the 2008 season and in seasons to come.
Returning starters from the 2007 squad are sophomore catcher/infielder Nolan Rose, sophomore utility Preston Swink, sophomore pitcher/infielder Jake Beam, and junior pitcher/1st base Austin Pile. A strong 2007 junior varsity squad will help fill the remaining roster. Senior leadership this year will be anchored by two players, shortstop Wes McCormick and outfielder David Alan Rubin. They are two qualified young men to help quide the young Brook Hill team to success through their enthusiasm and integrity.
The middle school baseball program has always been a great setting for learning valuable skills for players who want to strive to play in the junior varsity and varsity programs and make an immediate impact. We view them as the Brook Hill varsity of the future. Our 2008 middle school "A" team has a core of returning players who hope to compete for the middle school title, while our "B" team will be playing against other "B" teams for a playoff spot in the big tournament.
We are blessed to have the facilities we have with Herrington Field. Herrington Field has taken on new improvements year after year and continues to be an excellent venue to take in a game. The field has lights, covered dugouts, covered batting tunnels, concession stand, 175 fan capacity stadium seating, and a new clay infield with a turface and anglea conditioner mix.
New Head Coach Vince Veazey is no stranger to Brook Hill as he was the assistant under former Head Coach Sean Collins for 3 years and has been working Brook Hill camps since Coach Collins started hosting them. Coach Veazey played at Tyler Junior College under Coach Jon Groth and spent 3 years coaching with Coach Groth after playing. |
