Coach Terry Pirtle brings twenty-two years of East Texas High School Football coaching experience to his new role as Guard coach. Pirlte has spent time serving at Chapel Hill in Tyler (1988-90), Harmony High School in Gilmer (1990-96), and most recently at Pine Tree High School in Longview (1996-2009).
Coach Pirtle’s roles in football over the years have included several. While at Chapel Hill High School (4A), he served as Head Junior Varsity Football Coach. He was part of a staff that won the 1989 4A state championship. During his next stint at Harmony High School, he accepted the Assistant Head Football/ Offensive Coordinator position. His time spent at Harmony saw the offense consistently produce 400-yard averages per game and an average of seven wins per season. While at Pine Tree he served several seasons as the Passing Coordinator and Offensive Coordinator. Playing in one of the toughest districts in the state, which included state champion Sulphur Springs, state runner-up Longview, Texas High, Marshall, Mt. Pleasant and Hallsville, Pirtle’s offense flourished.
Coach Pirtle’s experience also includes fourteen seasons as Head Baseball Coach, as well as assisting in basketball, track, and girl’s soccer. Pirtle won “Coach of the Year” four times at Pine Tree as the Head Baseball Coach.
Pirtle signed both football and baseball scholarships to Sam Houston State University, where he lettered four years in baseball. He was voted to All-American teams and holds many records at SHSU in baseball. Coach Pirtle married his high school sweetheart, Terri, and has been happily married for more than twenty years.
The Pirtle’s have three children. Their oldest daughter attends the University of North Texas and was a three sport letterman at Pine Tree (cross country, soccer, and track), where she went to Regional’s in cross country and was All-District in soccer. She was also the Head Cheerleader for the Pirates her senior year. They have a son, who is active in football, basketball and baseball, and a younger daughter.
