Brook Hill OASIS
Others Are Served Instead of Self
OASIS Week carries no small weight here at Brook Hill. It is not just a week with a label. It is a week with a purpose. And what is that purpose? It is multi-faceted. One purpose is to challenge the kids with a series of messages from the speaker of the week. By having one speaker with a series of focused messages we drive the point of the messages home through daily chapels and consistency.
A second aspect of the week is provided in the context of our school’s coffee shop, Starbrooks. Here the kids can enjoy a stimulating evening of jazz, a challenging night of debates or a chance to express their talent (For more information on our coffee shop ministry please select the Starbrooks tab under the Campus Life link).
But perhaps the most powerful dimension of OASIS Week is our Service Project Day. This is a day when we load up the entire upper and middle school, head to designated locations, and spend the day working as volunteers for the benefit of others. A very abbreviated list of locations our students have served include the Tyler Day Nursery, Azleway Children’s Home, The Little Red School House, Bullard Southern Baptist and First United Methodist Churches, Taylor Day Care, Bullard Fire and Police Departments, library and city park. Each year we strive to make OASIS Week a more powerful experience than the previous year. And each year the Lord exceeds our expectations.
