Drum Line Competes

The Brook Hill Spirit of the Guard drum line went head to head with UIL competitors Bullard high school drum line and Chapel Hill drum line this past Saturday at the annual Red, White and Blue Festival in Bullard. While both of Brook Hill’s competitors represented much larger public schools with drum lines and band programs many years their senior, the Spirit of the Guard came prepared to do battle and represented Brook Hill in an impressive fashion. Playing four pieces from their rich repertoire, the Spirit of the Guard beat out the home town favorite and only lost by one point for first place to Chapel Hill.

For their good work in the categories of showmanship, complexity of repertoire, technique and overall line discipline Brook Hill brought home a $150 cash prize and the satisfaction of a job well done. Brook Hill Spirit of the Guard drum line members include (snare line) Tanner Smith (Cptn.), Eliza Kim, Ronnie Matula, (quads) BoHee Kim, (bass line) Xiqing Lu, Ann Kimball, Samuel Willis, Alex Ellis, Matthew Kimball, (cymbal line) Mikayla Willis, Ben Thomas, Kate Kimball, Anika Willis, Chris Roberts and jr. Members Atticus Rhoads (cymbals) and Lorien Rhoads (cowbell). The line is continually growing in skill, musicality, character and numbers. Who knows? Maybe there is a place on the line for you.
