Boarding FAQ's 2009-2010

1.  What do the boarding students do during breaks when the boarding houses are closed?
Boarding students are responsible for finding a place to stay over holidays when the boarding houses are closed.  Our staff will not be on duty and there is no adult supervision at the boarding houses, so students will need to stay off campus.  While we work with our students find places to stay, it is ultimately the student and his/her parent’s responsibility to find a home.

2.  Are boarding students allowed to have vehicles?
The only students allowed to have vehicles are those who have a valid driver's license and need to drive to their family's house for weekends.  The student's keys will be given to the boarding house parents as soon as they arrive on campus and will only be given back to the student to travel to their family's house.

3.  How will my boarding student receive spending money?
Students may have money wired to the school that is kept in the school banking account.  Withdrawal requests are taken from students every Wednesday and money is handed out on Friday. Extra large withdrawal requests can be subject to parental approval.  Students may also have their own credit/debit cards.

4.  How will my boarding student get books and uniforms?
Books and uniforms can be ordered after arriving at Brook Hill.  Once a student has their schedule of courses, the Director of Residence Life will assist them in ordering their books.  The Director of Residence Life will also assist them in ordering uniforms after their arrival.

5.  When my student has a flight, what are the customary arrangements for getting to and from the school?
The Brook Hill bus travels to the Dallas/Fort Worth airport twice a semester, at the beginning and end of each semester.  All flight arrangements for travel during the semesters will need to go through the Tyler airport (TYR) where the boarding house parents will pick up the students; students flying in to Dallas rather than to Tyler, will need to pay for a transportation shuttle that makes regularly scheduled trips from the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.  The Director of Residence Life will be happy to assist the students in booking the shuttle.  All travel arrangements for boarding students must be communicated to Mrs. Collins, the Director of Residence Life.

6.  How many students are in a room?
There are five students in each suite.  Each boarding student has a bed, desk, chair, wardrobe and chest.  The five students share a bathroom with an abundance of cabinet space, one toilet and two showers.

7.  What options do the boarding students have for extracurricular activities?
Each semester the students will receive a boarding event calendar which shows the many activities available for students.  Some of the activities include amusement parks, water parks, safaris, shopping malls and many other experiences. Each week the students have "theme" dinners to add to their dining experience.  There are themes such as Cinco de Mayo, where the students are served Mexican food and break open piñatas; and for Chocolate Night the students are surrounded by various kinds of chocolate.

8.  What is the cost for boarding and is Financial Aid available for boarding students?
You can find boarding tuition information at http://www.brookhill.org/PDF/Boarding%20Tuition.pdf . Currently, there is no financial assistance available from the school for boarding students.
