GUARD SMASHES HAWKINS IN OPENER

Led by a strong first quarter showing by the Guard offense and defense, Brook Hill crushed Hawkins in route to their season opening win 47-18.  The Guard was paced by sophomore JB Moss who scored three touchdowns on the evening.

The Guard deferred the opening kick off and forced Hawkins into a 3 and out first offensive possession.  The first offensive drive of the year began on Hawkins 44 yard line and ended in the Hawks end zone eight plays later when Zac Cool hit paydirt from 6 yards out.  After another defensive stop, Tyler Baker found Moss for an 82 yard scoring strike.  Moss took the screen pass from Baker and raced 82 yards to paydirt giving the Guard a 13-0 lead.  After a fumble recovery by sophomore A.J. Minter, the Blue and Orange offensive machine struck for the third time in 5 offensive plays when Baker scampered in on a QB keep from 3 yards away.

The second quarter was a continuation of the first as Mnter rambled 41yards to the end zone giving  the Guard a 26-0 lead.  Another touchdown by Moss from 10 yards away gave Brook Hill a commanding 33-0 lead prior to Hawkins first score on the last play of the half leaving Brook Hill in front 33-6.

The Guard continued their dominance of the hapless Hawks as Zachary Cool opened up the 2nd half with a boom, taking the opening kick off 85 yards and crossing the goaline to give BH a 40-6 margin.

Later in the game, Moss would take another scoring toss from Baker, this time for 39 yards capping off Brook Hills 47-18 victory.

For the night, Baker was 4-8 for 151 yards and two touchdowns.  Moss had three receptions for 120 yards and two scores.  Nine different Brook Hill ball carriers got into the action against Hawkins with Baker leading the way with 44 yards on 6 carries.  Ross Lee took the wind out of the Hawks sails early, crunching out 50 yards in 7 carries.  The offensive line consisting of Heath Dickey, Johnathon Jones, Justin Northcutt, Tallen Harris, and center Cody Bryant led the way with the Blue and orange amassing 386 total yards in a mere 46 snaps for an average of 9.65 yards per snap.

Defensively, Brook Hill allowed only 223 yards, shutting down Hawkins vaunted offense.  Baker and Harris led in tackles with 8 and 6.5  respectively.  Senior Blue-Chipper Jeremey Chappelle had 4.5 tackles and one interception.  Senior Tackle Justin Northcutt added 5 tackles for the Guard.  Brook Hill allowed only 3.1 yard per play, using their speed and quickness as was evidenced by Matt Ruark's unbelievable sack of Hawkins QB in the 1st half, and Jared Dickey's speed rush from the outside, sending the signal that the Guard will play an exciting brand of defense for this 2009 season.

The victory give BH a record of 1-0, and was new Head Coach Terry Pirtle's first victory as the Guards head man, and his first as a head coach after a sparkling 22 years as an assistant, the most recent being as the offensive Coordinator of class AAAA Pine Tree.

GUARD FOOTBALL READY TO ROLL AUGUST 3RD

The Brook Hill Guard Football team will unveil its new look offense and defense on August 3rd as 1st Year Head Coach Terry Pirtle welcomes back approximately 50 prospective players to Herrington Stadium as the 2009-2010 season gets underway.

The Guard has a host of returning players back from last seasons 9-2 squad that advanced to the Area round of the TAPPS AAA State Playoffs.

Leading the way in the new spread offense will be 5'11 So. Quarterback Tyler Baker and 6'3 Sr. Blue-Chip wide receiver Jeremey Chappelle.  The air-attack paced by these two star performers will get plenty of help up front from a pair of highly recrited, mammoth-sized tackles in 6'6 250 Heath Dickey and 6'7 270 Courtney Thomas as well as returning starter Justin Northcut who will make the move to offensive guard.

Chappelle, Baker, Thomas, and Dickey attended numerous college camps this past summer, and have the collegiate scouts drooling over their potential to play at the next level.

Defensively, Brook Hill linebackers Tallen Harris and Ross Lee will spearhead the new aggressive look defense.  Both of these hard-hitters will anchor a defensive unit that appears primed and ready to stop opponents offenses dead in their tracks.

Fresh off a team camp trip to TCU, BH will look also look to some talented sophomores who contributed last year to the Guard's succes.  DB, back-up QB and kicker J.B. Moss will see plenty of action on both sides of the ball as will 6'4 Jared Dickey.  Returning running back and DB Jamel Bell provides speed in the back field, while Mason Jones adds line depth.

The Guard will open it's practice schedule on the 3rd with a single workout, then check into the Brook Hill Boarding Houses where they will spend August 4th-6th residing on campus in preparation for the team's 1st scrimmage on August 15th at home vs. Overton.
