For the Fundamentals of Coaching SPARC we traveled to three colleges and got to meet with the respective coaches from each. First, we toured the facilities at Tyler Junior College and got to see some of the best Junior College athletic facilities in the country while also getting to visit with TJC women’s soccer coach Cory Rose and assistant men’s basketball coach Mitch Marquis.

The next day we traveled again into Tyler to visit UT-Tyler. Again we saw first class facilities, this time at a division three university. The women’s softball coach, Mike Reed, showed us around and gave us great incite and advice about what coaching is all about.

Finally, the highlight of our trip was that we were able to get full access to the Big 12 Champions, Baylor Bears football team. After an extensive tour through all of their amazing football facilities, we were able to sit in on a player meeting, talk to defensive coordinator Phil Bennett, and stand on the sidelines and see practice up close and personal. It was a great week and we can’t wait to do it again!
