Graduation

RodFletcherPortraits(TA)-11

From the desk of Rod Fletcher, Headmaster:

For parents, graduation represents the day that they have both been preparing for and dreading for the past eighteen years.  As an educator I have participated in 21 high school graduation ceremonies, but standing on the stage this year, with the class of 2016, will be a very different experience for me – my own child will be crossing that stage.  For 21 years I have casually congratulated parents, encouraged parents and told parents how proud I was of their son or daughter.  These parents would look back at me with a glazed expression.  I now completely understand what that facial expression was saying, “Rod, can you please pull the dagger out of my heart.”

This is so hard, and the only thing that makes it bearable is knowing that we prepared them well and they are ready.  The great thing is that the class of 2016 truly has been prepared for college and is ready for life.  They have so much potential and have been trained academically, athletically, artistically, and spiritually.  They are positioned to thrive in college and use their training to accomplish great things in the years to come.  As sad as I am to see them leave, I am even more excited to see what they will do as they enter this next phase of life.
