Guard close pre-district play with win over Big Sandy

Brook Hill started strong and finished even stronger in a 53-49 victory over Big Sandy Tuesday at Herrington Gymnasium.

The Guard were coming off three-straight losses over the holidays at the Wagstaff Classic at Tyler Junior College. In all three, Brook Hill went through an ice-cold offensive quarter.

Back at home, Brook Hill never experienced that Tuesday with the Guard building a 28-24 lead at halftime and finishing things off by outscoring their visitors 18-15 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

“This was a good win for us with district starting Friday,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “Hopefully, we’ll ride this bit of momentum we’ve now built up.”

Parker Galbraith and Alec Kitt paced the offense with Galbraith doing a lot of his work from outside the arc with four 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 18 points. Kitt delivered 17 points for the Guard.

Brook Hill (8-10) begins league play against Tyler Grace Community at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Herrington Gym.
