Guard edge past Pittsburg, 49-48

PITTSBURG — The Brook Hill Guard used a strong third quarter to push out ahead of Pittsburg and held off a late challenge to secure a 49-48 win over Tuesday in a non-district game.

The victory evens the Guard’s record this season at 7-7.

Brook Hill’s offense was provided by four players, led by Alec Kitt’s 19 points. Jared Johnson also finished in double figures with 14.

The Guard looked to have put the game away in the early minutes, building a 15-4 lead after the first quarter. Everything flipped in the second quarter with Brook Hill still barely able to hang on to a one-point advantage (23-22) at halftime.

The third quarter was a lot like the first one for the Guard, who delivered 19 points and took a six-point advantage (42-36) into the fourth and final frame. It was close, but the Guard held off Pittsburg for the win.

Brook Hill will next be in action in the Wagstaff Holiday Classic next week at Tyler Junior College. The Guard will open against Brownsboro at noon Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Wagstaff Gymnasium.
