Guard use big second-half to down Midland Christian in bi-district win

DUBLIN — The Guard endured a frustrating first half offensively, only to erupt in the second half and defeat Midland Christian 58-50 Saturday in their TAPPS 4A bi-district playoff game.

Brook Hill was held to a season low 12 points in the first half. Fortunately for the Guard, their defense was up to the task of limiting Midland Christian as well and only trailed 14-12 at halftime.

All of that changed after halftime. Brook Hill combined to score 46 points in the second half. Midland Christian tried to stay with the Guard, but couldn’t do it as BH finished off an eight-point victory.

“The boys effort today was amazing,” Guard coach Jacob Agnew said. “In the first half we just couldn’t put the ball in the hole. Finally in the second half we got in a rhythm and just did what we do.

“The boys executed and hit some big shots down the stretch. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Junior Parker Galbraith led the way with 15 points, but he was not alone with five Guard players scoring eight points or more.

Brook Hill raises its record to 17-14 with the win and now turns its attention to the next round against Austin St. Domino Savio Catholic (24-8). The game is scheduled for Tuesday at Savio Catholic School.
