“Where is Micronesia?” Abed Taha, from Jordan, and Sam Adams, from Micronesia, were in the Res Life Suite Friday, and Abed asked Sam this question. Without realizing it Abed was raising his GQ, Global Quotient. This is a term Mr. Fletcher and I learned at a recent boarding school conference in Washington, D.C. The other Headmaster who was leading the session in which we were introduced to this new term made this memorable statement, “IQ plus EQ [emotional quotient] plus GQ equals strong leaders.”

That quote came back to me as I watched Sam show Abed where Micronesia is. And it struck me what an advantage Brook Hill students have over the students at schools that don’t enjoy the diversity that we have here.
