It’s a small world after all

From the desk of Shawn Rhoads, Director of Residence Life:

Ms. Hayes, our Middle School Principal, recently kicked off a great, new Club Block for our Middle School students. One of those new clubs, The International Club, is headed up by Mrs. White and Mrs. Fitzgerald. Just this past week ten Middle School students learned a ton about the African nation of Nigeria and the eastern nation Kazakhstan. Among the things they learned were what schools are like in those countries, they saw traditional clothing from those countries, actually had some food from Nigeria, they learned where these countries are on the map, witnessed an authentic Nigerian dance, saw copies of these countries’ currency and even learned a couple of phrases in the languages and dialects of those countries. Each week a new nation or two will be featured during Friday club time.

Students who attend a school that has 24 different countries in residence are sitting on a cultural gold mine. The students who take part in this club will enjoy a smoother transition into high school classes when they will be sitting next to students from all around the world. And by sitting in those classes through high school they will eventually have a tremendous advantage over other high school graduates who did not have the opportunity to go such a culturally diverse school as Brook Hill.
