Lady Guard bats too much for Grace to handle, 12-1

Brook Hill began TAPPS District 2-4A play with a flourish, combining for 12 runs on 10 hits in a 12-1 victory over Tyler Grace Community on Monday at Schwab Field.

The Lady Guard hadn’t played a game in 17 days due to spring break, but quickly went to work scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead and tacked on nine more runs in the third and fourth.

All told, Brook Hill combined for seven extra-base hits, highlighted by home runs from sophomore AD Kuechle and senior Taylor Schultz.

The game was called after the top of the fifth because of the 10-run rule.

The victory raises Brook Hill’s overall mark to 9-3-1 in 1-0 in district.

Junior Alyssa Duplichain led in the circle and at the plate. Duplichain allowed one run on two hits with seven strikeouts to get the win while also delivering a double, two triples and four RBIs.

Schultz homered, tripled  and walked while scoring three runs and driving in three. Senior Maddie Parker also singled, doubled and scored three runs.

Grace took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Duplichain quickly helped herself in the bottom of the inning with a two-run triple as part of a three-run frame to take a 3-1 lead.

Schultz and Duplichain did damage in the third inning with Schultz plating Parker with a triple followed later by a second two-run triple from Duplichain in a many at-bats to make the score 6-1.

Any comeback thoughts were put to rest in the fourth as Brook Hill tacked on six more runs.

The Lady Guard will next be in action against Tyler Bishop Gorman at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
