Lady Guard edged out by Sabine, 3-2

SABINE — The Brook Hill Lady Guard went on the road Tuesday to play a non-district match against the Class 3A Sabine Lady Cardinals.

The Lady Guard got off to a terrific start, winning Game 1 25-13 against a Sabine team that was 18-8 coming into the match.

The home side rallied to win the next two games, 25-7, 25-22, putting Brook Hill under pressure and the Lady Guard responded with a 25-17 victory to force a fifth and deciding game.

In Game 5, Sabine won 15-8 to take the match, 3-2.

Brook Hill showed its defensive prowess despite the loss with the team combining for 61 digs and seven stuff blocks in the five games. Brianna Young led the Lady Guard with 26 of those digs while Lexi Crenshaw (4) and Emily Webb (3) did their part with blocks at the net.

Brook Hill returns to TAPPS 2-4A competition on Thursday when the Lady Guard go on the road to face Tyler Bishop T.K. Gorman. The Freshmen are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. at Gorman’s gymnasium.

Brook Hill JV defeats Nacogdoches Home School, 25-15, 25-15

Thanks to strong play from Zoe Hayes, the Brook Hill junior varsity took care of business in two games against Nacogdoches Home School on Tuesday. Hayes finished with three kills, two aces and 5 assists.

Other standouts for Brook Hill in the match were: Julia (1 kill, 1 ace, 3 assists), Madeline (2 kills), Grace (1 ace), Kaitlynn (2 kills), Autumn (1 kill, 6 aces), Lori (2 kills), Jaylen (3 aces, 1 assist) and Morgan (1 kill).

 

Brook Hill Freshmen fall short to Nacogdoches Home School, 25-17, 25-12

The Lady Guard Freshmen team was swept in two games by Nacogdoches Home School. Despite the loss, Kaitlynn Juarez was singled out by Coach Candy for hustle plays to finish with 1 kill, 1 assist and 2 aces in the loss.

Other performers for Brook Hill in the match were: Natalie (2 kills), Amie (1 assist), Emma (1 assist), Kasey (3 aces) and Sydney (1 ace).
