The Brook Hill softball team remained unbeaten in district play by edging Tyler Grace Community 8-2 on Thursday. Then the Lady Guard took on powerhouse Shreveport Evangel Christian in a non-district double header on Saturday.

The Lady Guard were topped 10-6 in Game 1 before responding with a 9-3 victory in Game 2 to split the series.

Brook Hill is now 14-4-1 overall and 5-0 TAPPS District 2-4A

Brook Hill jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and that carried the Lady Guard to an eventual 8-2 win.

Taylor Schultz got the victory in the circle, going the distance while allowing two runs on three hits while striking out 12. Schultz also scored twice for the Lady Guard thanks to reaching base in every plate appearance courtesy of four walks.

Maddie Parker doubled, tripled and scored a run with AD Kuechle finishing with two singles and a run scored.

Brook Hill went to work in the first as Maddie Parker led off with a triple and scored on an error followed later by a two-out RBI double from Alyssa Duplichain that scored Taylor Schultz for a 2-0 lead. Duplichain came home on an RBI single from Lexi Crenshaw.

Brook Hill’s lead was sliced to 3-2 and the score stayed that way until the fourth inning. Maddie Anthony doubled to score Kasey Anderson for a 4-2 lead. Maddie Parker followed a single to center that scored Anthony to make it 5-2.

The Lady Guard tacked on three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh with Schultz handling the rest, allowing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the inning before retiring the next three for the win.

Shreveport Evangel 10, Lady Guard 6, 8 innings

Maddie Parker tripled and drove in three runs, but it was not enough for the Lady Guard in an eventual four-run loss.

Brook Hill never led in the game, rallying from 5-0 down to score five runs in the fourth and tying the game 6-6 with a run in the seventh before Evangel struck for four more in the eighth.

Alyssa Duplichain provided two of Brook Hill’s five total hits in the contest with AD Kuechle doubling and scoring a run for the Lady Guard.

Duplichain took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout. Taylor Schultz started the game for Brook Hill and went three innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

Trailing 5-0 in the fourth, Brook Hill used bases-loaded walks from Morgan Moss and Maddie Anthony followed by a three-run triple from Maddie Parker to the game at 5-5.

The Lady Guard were behind again, 6-5, in the bottom of the seventh when Maddie Parker worked a lead-off walk and scored on an RBI double from AD Kuechle.

Evangel went back ahead with four runs in the eighth, and this time, Brook Hill could not answer to end the game.

Brook Hill’s Taylor Schultz went 3 for 3 with two doubles and drove in five runs to lead the Guard past Shreveport Evangel and salvage a split of their double header.

Kasey Anderson got the win in the circle with a complete-game effort, allowing three runs while scattering eight hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Maddie Anthony and Maddie Parker each scored three runs while combining for five hits and two stolen bases. Alyssa Duplichain doubled and drove in two runs.

Schultz gave Brook Hill a 3-2 lead in the third inning with an RBI double to score Maddie Anthony who had singled.

She went to work at the plate again in the fourth with a double to score Maddie Parker, who had waked to make it 4-2.

Evangel cut the lead to 4-3, but that was all as Brook Hill answered back with five runs in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI double from Alyssa Duplichain.
