Looking Back on an Incredible Year

RodFletcherPortraits(TA)-11

From the desk of Rod Fletcher, Headmaster:

Congratulations! You successfully finished another year. The end of a school year is always a bitter-sweet moment for me. On the one hand – and especially this year as my own son graduated from Brook Hill – I am sad to say goodbye to our graduating class, but on the other hand I am also excited to see how far we have come and how we have grown as a school and as a family. The end of the school year is full of hope for the rest and refreshment that summer brings, but every year it is also a time when I reflect on what we’ve been through and how far we have come. This year is no exception – so many incredible things happened at Brook Hill over the past nine months. I took some time to share this with our faculty on Friday morning, and I also wanted to share it with you.

  • This year’s graduating class was accepted to 128 different colleges and received $5.3 million in college scholarships.
  • 10 teams advanced to the state playoffs, 4 advanced to the regional finals, and 3 advanced to the TAPPS Class AAAA State Tournament. Brook Hill also had 5 individual athletes place at the TAPPS Class AAAA state meets, 9 student-athletes qualify for TAPPS Academic All State Teams, and 6 athletes sign to continue their athletic careers with a college or university.
  • Brook Hill’s Fine Arts program continues to grow and flourish from grades PreK-12. Our Cadet Singers continued their winning tradition and learned songs in five different languages. Our Upper School Choir placed at State and our Spring Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, continued our tradition of excellence in musical theatre. To top it all off, our orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Jamie Reason, brought home the TAPPS Class AAAA State Championship!
  • Our Lower School continues to thrive and grow as its reputation of excellence in Christ-centered, college preparatory education spreads.
  • The boarding program at Brook Hill brought students from 22 different countries under one roof, giving our students a truly global perspective.
  • The American Freedom Museum had a total attendance of 12,549 this past year and over 90 Brook Hill classes were able to use the museum to enhance learning in their classroom through interactive lessons. Our students are hearing the truth about our nation and recognizing the importance of history in every subject area.
  • Brook Hill students continue to grow in their heart for service, logging over 6,850 hours of community service this year.
  • You, the families, friends, and faculty of Brook Hill are cultivating a spirit of generosity and philanthropy as our Annual Fund continues to be healthy, allowing us to do more to make Brook Hill the best it can be.
  • Year after year I see more and more students and families cheering on our students in their athletic, academic and artistic competitions. Students show up to games with their faces painted, participate in theme nights, and are proud of their school. Brook Hill’s school spirit is something to be proud of, and I love feeling the excitement on our campus.
  • Brook Hill’s story is being told in unprecedented ways. This past year we have published over 953 stories that have been viewed over 180,000 times. We are doing incredible things in our classrooms, on the stage, and on the field, and people are hearing about it.
  • Finally, and most importantly, as I reflect on our year, and think about our students, I am reminded that our students are becoming more like Christ through their time here. When I attend Lower School chapel and I see our students and faculty worshiping God together, I am moved by the joy and love they have for Christ. As I shook the hands of our graduates, many of whom I have known for years, I was proud of the Christ-like men and women they are becoming.

I am proud of Brook Hill and the difference we are making in the lives of young people. It has been another great year, and I am already looking forward to the next so that we can prepare the next generation not only for college, but for life. Enjoy your summer!
