Children
start out from their early experiences drawing and exploring art.
It will bring them a great deal of satisfaction. Lower school
students at The Brook Hill School will build on that early interest
in art. They will be taught the principles of line, space, color,
weight, proportion and pattern. They will learn how to see as
an artist sees, explore a variety of mediums and progress from
the macro-sketch to adding more and more detail arriving at a
micro-sketch. They will be able to, as one child expressed, “Draw
things so they look real.” There will be a balance between guided
instruction and free exploration and creativity. They will also
learn to identify and appreciate the works of the masters.
