Opportunities

From the desk of Shawn Rhoads, Director of Residence Life:

If I only had three words that I could use to describe Brook Hill Boarding School one of those words would have to be Opportunities.  The amount of options our boarding students have is really remarkable.  Consider the standard off-campus and on-campus opportunities that students have each week:

Mondays

  • Supervised afternoon errand shuttles
  • Supervised shopping shuttle to Walmart
  • Supervised study halls
  • Supervised fitness facilities

Tuesdays

  • Supervised afternoon errand shuttles
  • Supervised shuttle for grocery shopping/banking to Brookshires
  • Supervised study halls
  • Supervised shuttles to fun locations like Boba Tea, Andy’s Ice Cream, Starbucks, Broadway Square Mall, etc.
  • Supervised fitness facilities

Wednesdays

  • Supervised afternoon errand shuttles
  • Supervised study halls
  • Supervised shuttles to fun locations, like on Tuesdays
  • Supervised fitness facilities

Thursdays

  • Supervised afternoon errand shuttles
  • Supervised study halls
  • Supervised shuttle to Walmart
  • Supervised fitness facilities

Fridays

  • Supervised afternoon errand shuttles
  • Supervised shuttle for grocery shopping/banking to Brookshires
  • Supervised shuttle to Fresh for gelato bar, sandwich bar, taco bar, coffee bar and other foods

This list does not include the athletic competitions that are played on campus, like volleyball (middle school, JV and Varsity) and Football (middle school, JV and Varsity) along with the accompanying pep rallies, bon fires, dances and other Brook Hill traditions that involve different groups and teams that many of our kids are involved in.

Weekends

There is almost always a Dallas option, a movie option and an on-campus option each and every weekend.  These locations would include things like Whatzup Family Fun Park, Celebration Station, Main Event, Studio Movie Grill, Medieval Times, Cumberland Shopping Village, Dave & Busters, Stone Briar Mall, Dallas Stars Hockey and a ton more.  Also on weekends there will be multiple restaurant outings students can choose from.

In addition to the trips there are also on-campus events planned like Boarding Bash, outdoor movies, specialty art classes, tailgate parties, themed dinners and a whole lot more.  We are also opening up English riding lessons to our students at the nearby Pierce Equestrian Riding School.  And of course there are leadership and service opportunities as well, like A-Team tutoring where students can tutor other students for community service hours, or opportunities as a Res Life Prefect in a variety of different areas of boarding life.

So as you can see, the issue at Brook Hill is not the lack of opportunities.  The issue is, “with so many options, which opportunities do I choose?”
