Praise for Prayers Answered!

Emma’s recent x-ray

From the desk of Ginger Bell, Director of Family and Alumni Relations:  We have been praying for Miss Emma Davis and the possible surgery she was to have on her arm due to Fibrous Dysplasia.  I am overjoyed to share her mom, Wendy’s, recent news regarding our Father answering Emma’s secret prayer!

“For those of you that have been following Emma’s story and have been a part of her prayer chain, we have a huge praise to share! For the rest of you, our family has been blessed with an answered prayer. Emma has Fibrous Dysplasia in her right forearm. It causes tumors to grow inside the bone. These tumors weaken the bone, making it easier to break, causing it to hurt and ache, and over time causes the bone to bow (growing curved). Emma broke her arm during the beginning of the Spring semester. This was her second break. Her doctors agreed it was time for surgery. It’s an invasive surgery with a 6 week recovery, so I asked if it could wait for summer break. They said yes. We went to her pre-op visit yesterday to schedule surgery. As part of her pre-op visit, they did another x-ray to assess what all would be done. The doctor said after reviewing her x-ray, he no longer sees the need for surgery at this time!! The tumors are still there and they are still large; however, they are no longer black and hollow. The break made the bone work to heal itself and now there is more healthy bone tissue inside the diseased portion of her bone. It’s actually stronger now than it was before the break. Emma had been secretly praying for no surgery. When the rest of us were praying for a good surgery date and recovery, she was praying every day for no surgery, and I didn’t know it. After her appointment, when we were buckling up in the car, I told her, “see, God answered our prayers.” And she told me God listens to me but he never listens to her. I asked if she had prayed for no surgery and she said yes. I told her that I hadn’t prayed for healing. I had prayed for a good surgery date and for protection. I said, “Emma, God heard your prayer and answered.”  When I saw the look on her face when that reality set in, I lost it and we cried together. She had asked earlier that day why God put us through all this stress of multiple surgery dates and visits to Dallas only to not need surgery at all. I told her God used it to show her that He does listen to her!! I’m beyond grateful to everyone who has prayed for little Emma. She still has a long road; Fibrous Dysplasia is chronic and progressive. But I know God is watching over her and taking care of the situation in His perfect timing. When people say “My God is bigger than _______,” trust that it’s true. Yesterday He proved that He was bigger than a chronic and progressive bone disease!”
