Prefects
The importance of leadership training among teens is inestimable. As our students graduate and move out into the waiting world we expect that they will not only survive but also thrive as leaders, impacting their world for Christ. We believe not only in teaching students about leadership but also providing them an avenue through which to practice that teaching.
The form of student leadership you will find at The Brook Hill School is set apart from what you typically have at most schools. Our goal is to have as many of our students involved in leadership as possible. We believe the most effective vehicle to that end is the Prefect System. The Brook Hill School is divided into nine different sections, with some of those sections having subsections. There are Admissions and Marketing, Athletics, Campus Life, Chapel, Coffee Shop, Drama, Humanities, Orchestra and Technology. Through the prefect system students have the opportunity to be involved at the leadership level in the area that most interests them. After completing the application process students then start taking ownership of their certain respective areas of responsibility.
How does the Prefect System work? Once the students are chosen by the staff for their positions they then report to the area director to establish a schedule that is convenient and conducive for both the director and the prefect(s). From there the needs of that department are discussed so that the student can get a comprehensive understanding of what his or her responsibilities are. Finally, tasks are established and accomplished. Each week Brook Hill prefects meet together to discuss goals and accomplishments in their areas of interest. The Head Prefect oversees all other prefects, conducts meetings and is available for questions and problem solving. Should an issue be too great for the Head Prefect to resolve, the prefect will go to their area director for guidance and assistance. We invite you to encourage your child to take part in this outstanding leadership program with us.
