Softball: Lady Guard rack up four wins in three days

Brook Hill won four of five games this past weekend to raise its overall record to 11-5 entering a week break.

The Lady Guard next will be next be on the diamond Monday, March 13 against Jacksonville at Jacksonville High School. That game is scheduled with a first pitch at 11 a.m.

Lady Guard 8, Terrell 5

Despite committing eight errors, Brook Hill was able to will its way past Terrell in its final game Saturday thanks to five extra-base hits.

The Lady Guard delivered four doubles (Kaitlyn Juarez, Alyssa Duplichain, AD Kuechle, Micah Lovelady) and one triple (Kasey Anderson) as part of nine hits overall.

Lovelady registered the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Brook Hill trailed 1-0 after the top of the first and responded with two runs to take the lead. Kuechle singled in Duplichain and scored on a double by Lovelady. The Lady Guard made it 3-1 with on an RBI single from Kuechle in the third, which scored Anthony.

Juarez doubled home Cassie Cannon  with Anderson tripling to score Juarez and Natalie Travis. Anderson scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2.

Terrell scored two runs to make it 7-4.

Cannon provided the eighth and final run for Brook Hill when she walked, stole second and eventually stole home.

Brook Hill scored three runs or more in the first three innings before blowing the game up with eight runs in the fifth inning. It was all part of 19 hits registered by Brook Hill.

Nearly every player on the roster registered at least one hit, led by Alyssa Duplichain and AD Kuechle, who both went 4 for 4 with Duplichain driving in five runs and Kuechle finished with four RBIs. All told, Brook Hill finished with nine extra-base hits. Registering doubles were Maddie Anthony (2), Kasey Anderson, Kuechle (3), Micah Lovelady and Brianna Young. Duplichain also had a triple.

The offense was more than enough for Kasey Anderson in the circle, who struck out four and walked three to get the win. Kyndel Clayton tossed two innings of scoreless relief.

Brook Hill turned a 4-4 score into a comfortable win thanks to scoring five runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Kyndel Clayton got the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs in a little over two innings while scattering nine hits with two strikeouts. Kasey Anderson provided two innings of scoreless relief.

Delivering two hits or more from the Lady Guard were Maddie Anthony, Kasey Anderson, Alyssa Duplichain, AD Kuechle, Micah Lovelady and Brianna Young.

Both Duplichain and Kuechle smacked home runs with Kuechle providing a double.

The game turned for good in Brook Hill’s favor, thanks to a five-run fourth inning. Anthony began things with a one-out single with Anderson following with a single to put two runners on. Duplichain put the Lady Guard in front 5-4 with an RBI single. Kuechle worked a walk to load the bases for Micah Lovelady who put don a perfect bunt to score Anderson while she beat out the throw for a single to keep the bases loaded.

A wild pitch scored Duplichain and Clayton then drove in two with a two-out single to center to make it 9-4.

Duplichain and Kuechle took care of providing insurance runs in the fifth with Duplichain smacking a two-run homer and Kuechle followed with a solo homer for a 12-4 score.

Lady Guard 13, Tyler Lee 6

The Lady Guard and Class 6A Tyler Lee were tied 6-6 after the third inning until Brook Hill erupted for seven runs in the fourth. Reliever Kasey Anderson got the win in the circle, tossing two scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Maddie Anthony tripled a homered to power the Lady Guard.

It was Anthony’s leadoff home run in the fourth that ultimately put Brook Hill in front to stay. The Lady Guard added six more runs just to be sure. Anderson singled and scored on a double by Kuechle to make it 8-6. An RBI single by Micah Lovelady pushed the lead to 9-6 with Kyndel Clayton following with a two-run single to make it 11-6.

The Lady Guard batted around with Anthony capping the inning with a two-run single that scored Clayton and Cassie Cannon.

New Boston 13, Lady Guard 1

After cruising to three wins on Thursday, Brook Hill was held without a hit in a loss Saturday to New Boston. There were seven Lady Guard batters to reach bases via walk with Maddie Anthony, Kasey Anderson, Kyndel Clayton, Cassie Cannon (2) and Kaitlyn Juarez (2) all registering walks.
