The Brook Hill Lady Guard Softball continues to dominate District 4-3A play rolling to a perfect 6-0 league mark after bouncing Garland Christian 12-0 Tuesday in Garland.

Rapidly becoming known as "the bullies from The Brook,"  the Lady Guard now enjoys a season record of 10-4, and sits alone in 1st place..

Coach Amanda Reed's squad, determined to return to the TAPPS State Softball Tournament, was led by the pitching and hitting of Sarah Mullican against Garland.  Mullicane pitched a 3-hit shutout with 6 strikeouts while going a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate.

Mullicane had plenty of help from battery mate MC Selden in blanking the Trojans, while Carley Howard was 3 for 3 at the plate, and Kelsey Norton was 2-4.

The entire tLady Guard team played great defensively, commiting no errors on the night.  The Lady Guard returns to action Thursday when they travel to Dallas Lutheran for a 4:30 contest.

EXPECTATIONS HIGH FOR 2009 SOFTBALL SEASON

In just three years of existence, Head Coach Amanda Reed and The Lady Guard Softball team have quickly established themselves as one of the premier softball programs in the state.  Having made play-off appearances in each year of its existence, the conclusion of the 2008 season brought the Lady Guard's second consecutive undefeated district championship.  The 2008 season also saw the Lady Guard make their second straight appearance in the TAPPS State Tournament Final Four.

As a result of their sparkling 18-0 district record over the past two seasons, several players were recognized for their 2008 achievements.  Senior Shelby Rozell, juniors Kelsey Norton and Jessica Johnson, sophomores Sarah Mullicane and Kelsey Barton, and freshman Mary Caroline Selden and Carley Howard were named to the All-District 1st Team.  Also receiving recognition were junior Paige Wells and sophomore Jenny Anderson who were named to the 2nd Team.  The Lady Guard's recognition reached far beyond the district level with seven players being selected to the All Sate Team.

Mullicane, Johnson, and Selden received 1st team honors, while Rozell, Barton, Norton and Howard earned 2nd team honors.  Mullicane and Norton were also named to the All-State Tourney squad.

"We are very fortunate to have such talented young ladies in our softball program" Coach Reed notes.  They are equally dedicated to their classroom success as well as on the softball field.

The 2009 season looks as if the tradition of winning and excellence will again repeat itself.  Eight of the nine starters return for Reed including Mullicane who also added District MVP to her post season accolades.

"Everyone associated with the school and the program started looking forward to this year as soon as last years season ended.  Our expectation is to win district every year and have a shot at the state championship.  This year will be no exception."

Softball 2006-2007

The Brook Hill School varsity softball team will compete in TAPPS Division 3A during the 2006 – 2007 school year. After a very successful year, in its inaugural season of competition in TAPPS, the Lady Guard softball coaches, players, and fans are looking forward to their second season. In their first season, the team won third place in TAPPS 3A District 2 and advanced to the playoffs. The Lady Guard lost to Watauga Harvest in the first round of the playoffs.

The Lady Guard lost only one senior from last year’s team, and will return three first team All-District players and two second team All-District players. Additionally, numerous Freshman and new-comers should add to the team’s already solid line-up.

The team played their last two district games of the 2006 season on their newly completed softball field located in the northeast corner of the school’s sports complex. Several additions have been made to the field during the off-season which will allow the team to play its entire 2007 non-district and district home games on the field.

This year’s version of the Lady Guard’s 2007 season will begin in late January 2007.
