Student Initiated Clubs at The Brook Hill School

From the Desk of Dr. Stan Ward:

This week Brook Hill launched our student initiated clubs program for MS and US students. Students had the opportunity to create their own clubs which are now beginning to meet. To form a club, students had to fill out an application that included the club’s name, purpose, proposed leadership structure, and the signature of a staff person who agreed to serve as a sponsor. Applicants also had to explain how their club could contribute to one of Brook Hill’s missional values of education, potential, or character.

This week MS clubs met and finalized their roster, including:

  • chess,
  • fishing,
  • food,
  • computers,
  • video games,
  • ultimate frisbee,
  • sports improvement,
  • book reading,
  • and even a “theme” club that would allow students to pursue a different interest at each meeting.

US clubs will begin meeting next week, including:

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
  • photography,
  • fine arts,
  • chess,
  • sports debate,
  • language exchange,
  • and social gaming.

These clubs will be in addition to already-existing student organizations such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Newspaper.

Clubs will use the campus life block so students can fully participate without having to worry about after school responsibilities. The current club schedule for this semester includes MS clubs on November 1, November 18, and December 6. US clubs are currently scheduled for October 25, November 22, and December 13.
