Middle School Retreat

From the desk of Tammy Hayes, Middle School Principal:

What do you get when you mix two parts high adventure with one part yummy food, combined with a little information about your school’s new Guard Charge and set it down in the middle of the beautiful piney woods for two full days with 122 middle school students and 20 faculty members?

A WHOLE LOTTA FUN, that’s what!!!

This past Monday and Tuesday was just that, the perfect recipe for The Brook Hill Middle School, grades 6-8. Students and faculty traveled to Grapeland, Texas to enjoy the Frontier Camp experience. It was an opportunity to start the year off right by talking about what it means to Speak True, one important part of the newly adopted Guard Charge set forth this year by headmaster, Mr. Fletcher.

Students enjoyed beautiful weather, recreation opportunities like wakeboarding in the lagoon, Tomahawk and Archery contests, a remarkable Hidden Talent Show, and so much more. One highlight was the Monday night Magic Show with Magician Grant Price bringing the illusion of mentalism to the group. Students and faculty alike were quickly drawn into trying to figure out, “How did he do that?”

Other highlights from the retreat besides Cable tubing and the Giant Swing were Alli Koenig & Justin Powell’s concert-like duet, the shocking splits performed by new student, Jared Johnson, Mr. Roquemore’s very hidden talent, & Aspiring New Talent Winner, Abby Webb’s rendition of Owl City’s, Beautiful Times. All of these and more had everyone in the room on their feet and standing in their seats with phones on flashlight and roaring applause!

The connections made from student to student and between students and teachers offered the perfect backdrop to a new school year, hopefully giving everyone the comfort levels needed to enjoy playing, learning, and living out the Guard Charge together on a daily basis: Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Serve Others, and Follow the King!

At the end of it all, it’s no doubt in my mind that everyone who went would definitely agree that the middle is a good place to be at The Brook Hill School.
