Self-Defense Class

From the desk of Bobby Brasher, Director of Student & Campus Security:

We take the safety of students and staff very seriously here at Brook Hill. While they are young, we parents do whatever we can to make sure they are safe; however, they will grow up and venture out into the world on their own, and we want to be sure they are prepared as much as possible to manage their own safety.

Did you know?

  • In 2015, the FBI reported that violent crimes were up 5% nationwide
  • 63% of all violent crimes were aggravated assaults.
  • In all assaults, teen girls 12 to 17 years old are more likely to be assaulted than adults.
  • Teenage girls are at the highest rate of risk for abduction…75% of all abductions are females between 12 and 17 years old.

Many faculty/staff/moms have mentioned to our leadership that they wish we would offer a class for females teaching them how to be aware of potential dangers and defend themselves if attacked. We have been looking into how The Brook Hill School might come alongside you in offering such a class, and believe we have that opportunity below.

The Brook Hill School will host a Self-Defense class led by Paul Smith, Certified Defense Tactics instructor in Tyler, for all interested female faculty/staff, moms, and female students on January 29.  The class is $20 per person and will be a two-hour session.  It will take place in Kyle Lake in the upstairs cheer/dance room from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Please RSVP by sending a check or cash to Mr. Brasher’s assistant, Mrs. Adkins in the Upper School office. Our space is limited to 20 participants, so this is a first paid, first served basis. We will consider our sign-ups and offer more dates/times to accommodate our interest level.
