Spring Cleaning for Brook Hill

Spring-Cleaning-Main

From the desk of Laurie Humphries, Director of Advancement:

Are you spring cleaning, or plan to spring clean?  The season is right around the corner and The Brook Hill School wants to help.  We are partnering with two recycling companies, one for textiles and one for electronics, the whole month of March to dispose of our “don’t wants” responsibly.  A POD will be placed near the cabin March 2-April 1 to receive your textile items.  Receptacles will be placed by the main desk on each campus for your used electronics, during the same time.

Human Nation is a textile recycling company that will accept clothing, shoes, belts, purses (backpacks, duffle bags, etc.), bedding and draperies, bath (towels, mats, etc.) —anything with some type of fabric, in ANY condition.  Human Nation will pay 12 cents per pound, which will go directly to the Brook Hill Fund to benefit our entire campus.  What does Human Nation do with the items?  Great question!  First, anything that is in good to great condition is sold for pennies on the dollar to women heads of household in third world countries so they in turn can sell the items to their communities and provide for their families.  Secondly, anything that should go right into the trash can is doomed to a bleaching process and turned into rags and sold to cleaning companies.

Recycling Fundraiser (formerly EcoPhones) accepts cell phones and smart phones, iPads & tablets, iPods, inkjet printer cartridges (no toner please), gold, silver & platinum jewelry.  Recycling Fundraiser is the only school recycling program that pays something for EVERY item, up to $350 per cell phone, up to $285 per iPad, up to $25 per iPod, and up to $20 per smart watch and fitness band.   For the most current price list, visit www.recyclingfundraiser.com.
