INNOVATION AND ROCK FORMATIONS

October 31, 2019

Middle School science students took to the Innovation Lab this past week to wrap up an Earth Science project by creating persuasive presentations!   Each student was assigned a famous rock formation to research. They were to find information which would help convince people to visit their specific formation. Once students completed their research, they […]

Volcano Lab

January 31, 2014

6th Grade students in Jenny Wallace’s science class learned how volcanic eruptions form land. Students simulated an eruption using baking soda and vinegar, then mapped out how the lava would have dried and formed land with Play-Doh. Tomorrow students will use another group’s lab and determine through observation and reason the order in which the […]

Earthquake Science Lab

January 17, 2014

6th grade students in Mrs. Wallace’s science class learned about earthquakes this week. Students built structures in groups of two to see what would survive earthquake conditions, simulated by quickly removing sandpaper out from under the structure. Many of our students were able to build earthquake-resistant structures.

Liquid Density Lab

November 02, 2013

Sixth grade density lab. Students tested 5 different liquids to determine how the liquids compared in their densities. Studying density helps students understand how scientists believe the earth’s layers have formed.

Sampling the Core – 6th Grade Science Lab

October 30, 2013

Sixth graders are studying  how scientist learn about the earth by using core samples.  To bring this concept home, each student given a model earth (cupcake) in which they took core samples and then predicted what the inside of their cupcakes looked like.  Once 8 core samples were taken, the students were allowed to open […]
