6th grade students in Mrs. Wallace’s science class learned about earthquakes this week. Students built structures in groups of two to see what would survive earthquake conditions, simulated by quickly removing sandpaper out from under the structure. Many of our students were able to build earthquake-resistant structures.  

Sixth grade density lab. Students tested 5 different liquids to determine how the liquids compared in their densities. Studying density helps students understand how scientists believe the earth’s layers have formed.

Sixth graders are studying  how scientist learn about the earth by using core samples.  To bring this concept home, each student given a model earth (cupcake) in which they took core samples and then predicted what the inside of their cupcakes looked like.  Once 8 core samples were taken, the students were allowed to open […]
