4th Grade Cash Smoothie
Our 4th graders at Lower School started our Magnetic and Electrical Unit with “A Cash Smoothie”. Yes, you read that right; MONEY IN A BLENDER! It’s true… some money is magnetic. Iron is in a dollar bill and the only logical question for science enthusiast is, “How can I get the iron out of that dollar bill?”
Why is there iron in a dollar bill you ask? It’s really very simple: the government uses specially made magnetic inks to print money. We used a rare earth magnet called a neodymium magnet to attract the iron. Just don’t try to put that cash smoothie back into circulation-or you might find yourself explaining the science of magnets to the Secret Service!
