6th Grade Calculates Volume of Irregular Objects

Sixth graders are learning to find the volume of irregular objects in science class.  Students measured 50 ml of colored water into a graduated cylinder.  Next, they dropped in the test object and recorded the ending value on the graduated cylinder.  To find the volume, they had to subtract the ending amount with the beginning amount.  Students were surprised at how much space the clothespin took up in the cylinder!
