8th Science

To introduce chemical reactions and the law of conservation of mass, 8th graders made a reaction in a bag.  Students combined baking soda and calcium chloride in one baggie and water and indicator in the other.  Students took the mass before and after the reaction in order to compare.  Our students were surprised to see a color change and watch as their baggie filled with carbon dioxide gas.  Another surprise was how warm the baggie became!
