8th Science Makes Cleaning Solution
As part of 8th graders studying chemical reactions, students were challenged to make their own glass cleaners, including testing them and marketing them like a real world glass cleaner company. They started with three formulas which they tested and chose a winner to be their glass cleaner. They gave the product a name, a slogan and calculated the cost to produce it. In groups, students marketed their product with a bottle label, a magazine ad, and a commercial. Mrs. Wallace wanted her students to see how science is used in the real world to develop products and how collaboration plays a large part in the process. Students also compared how their cleaner measured up to common cleaners like Windex.
