Academic Achievements: National Merit Scholar, Valedictorian and Salutatorian
From the desk of Brian Nelson, Academic Dean:
Every year I have the privilege of meticulously calculating the numbers and grades of our top students to determine our valedictorian and salutatorian. What I love even more, however, is the opportunity to honor these two students before their peers.
This week I had that opportunity as I announced Bolutito Babatunde and Cynthian Cherng as the valedictorian and salutatorian of the class of 2015 respectively. These two young ladies have shown exemplary character and diligence in the classroom during their time at Brook Hill, and I am proud of what they have accomplished. The kind of academic rigor and achievement these two ladies have demonstrated exemplify the diligence we want our students to strive for as they prepare for college and their future.
We were also able to honor another student for his academic achievement this week: Chipper Adams. Out of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT, Chipper scored among the highest 50,000, entering him in the running for the National Merit Competition. We are delighted to hear of Chipper’s success, and look forward to hearing in the Fall if he will finish as a National Merit Commended Scholar, Semi-finalist, or Finalist.
Weeks like this make me proud to be the Dean of Academics at Brook Hill. As we celebrate the academic achievements of these three students, I am reminded of the kind of education our students receive; an education that teaches students to think critically and solve problems creatively. Our students also receive an education that prepares them for college and their future by giving them the individual attention they need to thrive. Even more than that, however, I am proud to work alongside faculty who truly care about their students and strive to cultivate Christ-like character within them.
