Congressional Art Competition

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol

Our part of the Congressional Art Competition is an annual event hosted by U.S. Representative Louis Gohmert. This year’s event was held at Turner Auditorium on the campus of Stephan F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. The reception honoring the student artists was held Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 11:00 to 1:00. The work was on display at the Griffith Gallery two weeks prior to the reception. 46 works of art from 23 school districts in our congressional district participated in the competition.  MiKayla Willis and Anna Luker represented The Brook Hill School extremely well, and our very own MiKayla Willis won Honorable Mention! Congratulate MiKayla on this incredible honor!
