Did your high school leave an impression on you?

Ginger Bell and Mehgan Frazier sharing memories

From the desk of Ginger Bell, Director of Family and Alumni Relations:

Did your high school leave an impression on you? Was that impression one that makes you want to stay in contact or even want to send your children there?  Evidently Brook Hill does just that.

Recently, I’ve written about alumni coming back for visits to introduce their spouses to the school they intend their future progeny to attend.  I’ve shared messages sent via email and social media from former members of our community just checking in to say hello and see how things are going.  We hosted several alumni for lunch over the Christmas Break who wanted that hug that reminds them whose they are!  We currently have children of alum and former teachers attending the Lower School.  Nieces and nephews and cousins of our alumni are attending Brook Hill.  For those in other schools that may be a common occurrence because you attend the same schools when you live in the same districts, no big deal.  But coming to The Brook Hill School is a deliberate choice and those who come after you often have made that choice because of the impression Brook Hill made.

I was recently asked what sets Brook Hill apart from other high schools.  I believe it’s that bond that is created once you spend time here.  This last weekend I was in San Antonio to revisit my youth.  I realized I couldn’t recall the name of anyone with whom I attended school other than my best friend, Evelyn.  I hadn’t even thought of any of them in years.  Then I got to have lunch with Mehgan Frazier, Brook Hill class of ’10, who is working for a group of doctors in San Antonio.  Her roommate, Kelsey Barton, ’10, was out of town or she would have joined us, too.  It’s been almost 6 years since these young ladies graduated and yet, Mehgan took time out from her Saturday to have a visit and reflect on her Brook Hill days.  And speaking of bonds, Mehgan and Kelsey were strangers before they got to know each other while attending Brook Hill and went on to be roommates at Texas A&M and now roommates in San Antonio.  Not only does Brook Hill leave an impression upon its students and families, but it makes an impression on their lives, too!
