FCA Learns About Perseverance

We had a great time in FCA this week.  We had a special guest speaker come talk to our huddle.

Christian Recinos, affectionately called “Kiki” by her teammates, of the TJC women’s soccer team came and spoke with our athletes.  Kiki talked to our students about perseverance and encouragement, by telling her own life story.  Kiki addressed dealing with disappointment when she did not make the grades for her to be admitted into the Division I school she was recruited to play for out of high school.  She talked about perseverance through what she felt was a discouraging time for her when she had to go to junior college.  But what was the greatest message that I felt Kiki shared with our kids was that she praised her teammates at TJC.  Those young women brought her in, encouraged her in who she is as a woman and as a soccer player, and lifted her up to continue to play with passion and integrity.  Since that time, Kiki has had the privilege to try-out for, and be selected to play for, the Guatemalan national team, where her family is from.  Kiki spent time this past year playing against teams like the U.S., trying to help Guatemala qualify for the World Cup.

It was a pleasure to have Kiki’s joy and sweet nature come and spend time with our students! We hope activities like these continue to encourage our students to not only strive for excellence in the classroom and in their sport, but more importantly in their faith.
