Filling Hearts with PB & J
We are so excited about our 3rd grade service project this year! This project will be ongoing throughout the month of February. We will be collecting peanut butter and jelly for an organization called My Brother’s Keeper. It started several years ago when a couple decided to take their Thanksgiving leftovers to some of the homeless people in Tyler. Since then, others have joined them in feeding many more people. This organization is headed up by Solomon Rodgers and every Saturday at 2:30 p.m. about 20-30 volunteers meet at Trinity Baptist Church 604 W. 4th St to make 200 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and 200 ham and cheese sandwiches. Volunteers then go out on 4 different routes to deliver them.
We are encouraging students to do little jobs for family members to earn the money to buy peanut butter and jelly, and then to go with their parents to the store. We hope that by doing this they will cultivate a heart for the poor and develop a passion for helping others!
