Finding a Weather Balloon

A weather balloon popped and parachuted down to the Brook Hill campus just in time for 6th graders to see an example of what they have been studying.  Brian Nelson rescued it from the parking lot and shared it with Mrs. Wallace’s class on Thursday morning.  Students had just learned that weather balloons travel up to the Mesosphere, but none had ever seen one…until this week! A note on the side asked that the instruments be mailed to NOAA so they can get the data from them and be reused.

“What an amazing thing to have happen at our school! In all my years of teaching, I have never seen one or known someone who saw one land,”  Mrs. Wallace commented. The parachute was even Brook Hill orange!
