One of the most exciting things that happens in third grade is when the boys and girls transfer from learning to read to reading to learn.

“This is the most rewarding blessing that a third grade teacher can experience,” Newsom said. “This year our team has experienced this in their learning. They are wanting to read all of the time. Many of the students have bought new and wonderful books from the book fair, and I have caught boys and girls reading their new books when I have been trying to teach division. It is hard to tell a student to ‘stop reading’ when that is what you want them to do.”

“DEAR time” is one of the best times of the day for Mrs. Newsom. If you don’t know what that means, just ask a student from her class.
