Sampling the Core – 6th Grade Science Lab

Sixth graders are studying  how scientist learn about the earth by using core samples.  To bring this concept home, each student given a model earth (cupcake) in which they took core samples and then predicted what the inside of their cupcakes looked like.  Once 8 core samples were taken, the students were allowed to open it up and see how they did.  The students found out it is not as easy as it appears.  Then, they were treated to eating their model earth after the lab.
