Shiver me timbers!
Fourth through sixth grade battled it out Thursday at the Lone Star Challenge Competition: Explorers, Buccaneers and Pirates.
Our Lone Star Challenge teams have been studying and exploring history, math, and science all year, and yesterday was the day they battled. This entry-level competition (for grade 4-6) into the United States Academic Decathlon allows these young students to compete on their home campus and then send their scores in to the State office.
There are actually two competition levels: Individual Grade Level Competition and State Team Competition. For Grade Level Competition, our students competed against their classmates for 1st – 3rd place in each contest. Grade-level medals will be awarded next Wednesday, May 3, 2017 during chapel. For the second level of competition, State Team competition, Brook Hill will enter 2 teams: Orange Team and Blue Team. 3 scores from each grade level will comprise the Orange Team and the other 3 scores from each grade level will comprise the Blue Team. Those score will be ranked with team scores from over 100 schools from all over Texas. Good Luck, Brook Hill!

The Texas Lone Star Challenge is the entry level competition for The United States Academic Decathlon. The USAD is a program that provides students an opportunity to experience the challenges of rigorous academic competition through participation in team activities. The Academic Decathlon program was initiated in California in 1968. Region contests were held until 1979 when California held the first statewide competition. In 1982, the competition became a national event and the USAD was formed. Texas became a USAD member in 1984.
2017 is the second year for The Brook Hill School to participate. Brook Hill debuted last year in the Top 20. If you are interested in participating next year, contact Robin Bynum, Academic Teams Director: [email protected].
