Social Media 101: Parent Seminar on February 16th

Jordy(TA)-3

From the desk of Jordy Barksdale, Director of Campus Life & Ministry:

When you hear people talk about social media, what emotions come to mind? Do you become frustrated and think that all the social media networks are the enemy? Do you love it and are currently planning your next Facebook post? Are you neutral and just wish you knew more about it? It’s no surprise to anyone that we are in a Social Media Revolution. Every day, you and your child are faced with what type, how often and to what degree you will use social media. In 2015, the Pew Research Center studied 13-17 year teenagers and determined that 92% of them go online daily, mostly on their cell phones.  The question is, what are they actually spending their time doing on their phone?

Brook Hill is hosting an event for parents who want to know more about:

  • How social media networks are most used by our students.
  • Ways to start communication with your child about safe internet usage.
  • Tools and resources you can use to protect your child from the dangers of social media.

We will provide you with statistics and understandable information that will empower you to lead the conversation with your child. After the information session, Alethia Counseling Center will be providing you with the choice of 3 different breakout sessions that will address:

  • Protecting your child from Internet pornography
  • Protecting your child from online sexual predators
  • Setting boundaries for you teenagers

Join us for a free seminar on Tuesday, February 16th at 6:30 in the Brook Hill Lecture Hall. We encourage both mom and dad to join us!
