Spanish 3 Experiences Hispanic Ballet

Spanish 3 students attend two performances of the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet Company at Bullard High School this week. The trip allowed students to experience Hispanic culture firsthand. The dance company performs traditional dances with live music and costumes from many Spanish-speaking countries.

The first performance was a colorful display of costumes, music and dances from Hispanic nations of the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America. The students experienced traditional favorites such as the Cumbia from Colombia, the Mexican Jarabe and Tapatio, the Samaba from Brazil, the Argentinean Tango and Malambo, and the Bachata and Merengue from the Dominican Republic. The students also enjoyed two forms of Salsa dance. The highlight of the performance was the Argentinean Boleadoras, the dance of the gauchos using ropes with metal tipped balls that whirl past their heads at a hundred miles per hour. The group’s finale included an interactive portion with two of our own Brook Hill students joining them on stage. The second performance featured the folkloric music and dances of Spain. The students witnessed the classic Paso Doble and a special feature of various styles of flamenco dance. The show included live classical guitarists performing a variety of traditional Spanish music.

The students conclude the field trip with lunch at Taco El Conquistador in Bullard before arriving back to school.
