Studying Plate Tectonics in 6th Grade

Plate tectonics is easier to understand if you build cities on top of Playdoh and place it on wooden boards. When students do this, they can observe the different kinds of plate movements and record the damage. After studying about divergent, convergent and transform plate boundaries, 6th graders did just that in science lab. Most groups found that convergent movement caused the most damage to their town. Just another way students are using hands on learning to enhance their understanding of difficult science concepts at Brook Hill!
