There is Strength in the Team
From the desk of Michelle Rozell, Upper School Principal:
One of the special attributes of The Brook Hill School is our commitment to the mission, vision, and values as they relate to every area of our school. Some schools become known, for example, as an “academic school” or an “athletic school” or a school that is “all about the arts!” At Brook Hill, we make an intentional effort to integrate across each of these areas needed to be a strong, Christ-centered college preparatory school. We accomplish this in many ways, one of which is to hire highly qualified faculty that are multi-talented and equipped to lead well in a variety of ways.
Our new head football coach is a good representation of this value becoming a reality and helping our school succeed both on and off the field. Scott Ryle may have been hired in the big picture to win the championship, but during the day he serves Brook Hill’s mission by aiding our boarding students as they strive for academic excellence. Coach Ryle does this as he serves alongside Jessica Mize in the Academic Center for Excellence located in Bell Library.
Our Academic Center for Excellence is focused on student success and committed to helping all students identify their best practices to prepare for the college they desire to attend. Mrs. Mize is able to do this each day for day students, but realized last year that we need another person give their full attention to our boarding students. The academic need can be different and their challenges unique, calling for a specific game plan. Coach Ryle is just the man to help them get to the goal post they desire in order to win. (Sorry, couldn’t pass up that analogy!)
The added bonus for us as a school is that our boarding and day students begin to see that we value every part of Brook Hill’s mission – academics, arts, and athletics – and that they all matter to every faculty member. Students see these same teachers and coaches prioritize the Christian faith and how it plays out in each discipline as well. So, in all aspects of life at Brook Hill, boarding and day students benefit from this incredibly strong interlocking fabric that is woven into the life of our school. We believe that this will result in a win for making Brook Hill students champions for life.
