A touch of China in Mrs. Batis’s classroom

Travis Haft is in JoAnn Batis’s second grade classroom. The Haft family has been hosting two Chinese college students for the past two weeks. On Wednesday afternoon, Travis’s mom brought the students, Tina and Michelle, for a visit.

“My students asked many interesting questions and the girls answered all of them,” Batis said. “It was a wonderful learning experience for all. We are studying fairy tales in class. I had planned to read Yeh-Shen: A Chinese Cinderella Story aloud to the class this afternoon before I knew the Chinese students were going to visit. I asked the Chinese students if they remembered the story, and Michelle told the story. After the students left, I read the book and my students were able to make connections with our conversation earlier.”
