What do we mean by the “Brook Hill Family”?
From the desk of Ginger Bell, Director of Alumni and Family Relations:
According to Michelle Blessing, “Families differ in terms of economic, cultural, social and many other facets, but what every family has in common is that the people who call it a family are making clear that those people are important in some way to the person calling them his family.” And, the members of this Brook Hill family are not just members for those moments they are a part of Brook Hill. Our alumni are shining examples of this fact! While home on Christmas Break, Aggie Chase McDermott, ’15 stopped in to visit his Guard Dog from last year, Holden Holik, ’26. He didn’t do it to please his coach or earn brownie points, he did it because Holden is important to him! I understand there was a hot game of “Go Fish” involved in the visit, too.
Chase, Jace Kuechle, ’15, Malik Alley, ’15, Abbigail English, ’13, Bailey Franklin, ’13 and several other alum took time during their break to come speak to this year’s seniors during Mr. Fletcher’s Senior Seminar class, too. Brook Hill is still important to them. Abbigail English stopped by the cabin and spoke to my Freshmen girls’ Advisory while on campus. Allen Quiyang Zhong made time for visits with his former boarding “Dad”, Shawn Rhoads, and many others. And, we enjoyed the company of alum from 2009 to 2015 during the annual Alumni Lunch during Christmas Break. I consider myself blessed to be a part of this family, don’t you!
I can’t wait for the 20th anniversary celebration of Brook Hill next year, because I know it will be just like a giant family reunion!
