Wisdom from the Vine

Each day in Bible 12, Seniors study the Word and make entries in their SOAP Journal (Scripture Observation Application Prayer). In studying the Gospel of John we have come to chapter 15, which opens with the Lord saying, “I am the true vine and my Father is the vine dresser.”  Where better to study this passage than in the beautiful vineyards of Kiepersol Estates? Both sections of Bible 12 had the unique opportunity to hear from Pierre de Wet or his daughter Marnelle Durrett on the finer points of viticulture and how it applies to the Christian life. They each honed in on the role of pruning in the fruitfulness of the vine and the Christian life. Despite the thunderstorms on Thursday and the arctic blasts on Friday the class had a very memorable educational experience last week. Special thanks to Pierre and Marnelle for sharing their time, wisdom and vineyard with our Bible class.

**The first part of this article was written before we learned of the untimely passing of Pierre de Wet.  None of us knew when we were at the vineyard last Friday that we were listening to the last lesson from the vineyards that Pierre would teach.  Remarkably, he spoke at length about how the Lord prunes our lives through taking loved ones home.  Pierre de Wet was a great man and a great friend to Brook Hill.  We are deeply impacted by his passing.  Our hearts and prayers go out to Marnelle and the family.  May the Lord of the vineyard provide His comfort to you and the family at the passing of one of the most fruitful branches on the Vine.
